British Airways plane loses wheel after take-off in US

A British Airways flight bound for London lost a wheel shortly after taking off from United States on Monday evening.

The aircraft, operating as Flight BA274 from Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, to Heathrow, appeared to shed a rear landing gear wheel moments after departure.

Footage captured on a Flightradar livestream shows an object falling from the right side of the plane soon after it lifted off the runway.

The US Federal Aviation Administration told AM Business that the British Airways Flight 274 lost a tire during takeoff in Las Vegas around 8:45 p.m

“British Airways Flight 274 lost a tire during takeoff from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas around 8:45 p.m. local time on Monday, Jan. 26,” Rick Breitenfeldt, FAA Public Affairs Specialist, stated.

The Airbus A350-1000 continued its nearly 10-hour flight and later landed safely in London without any reported injuries.

“The Airbus A350 continued to Heathrow Airport in London where it landed safely,” Breitenfeldt added.

FlightAware data shows the aircraft arrived in the United Kingdom at about 2:30 p.m.

The US FAA said it will investigate.
