Beijing has confirmed that China has received an invitation to join United States President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace”.
“China has received the United States’ invitation,” foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular news briefing, without indicating whether Beijing would accept.
The board was initially proposed to oversee the reconstruction of war-torn Gaza, though its charter does not explicitly restrict its activities to the occupied Palestinian territory.
Washington has extended invitations to several leaders to serve on the board, which would be chaired by President Trump, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Guo Jiakun noted that China-US relations had achieved overall stability in the past year, despite the trade war in which both countries imposed retaliatory tariffs on each other’s goods.
“Over the past year, China-US relations have experienced ups and downs, but have maintained overall dynamic stability,” Guo told reporters.
“Cooperation between China and the US benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both,” he added.
