Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved another historic milestone with her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, after emerging as Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker.
The film has recorded an impressive ₦2.1 billion at the box office, setting a new benchmark in the Nigerian film industry.
With this achievement, Behind The Scenes has become the first West African film to cross the ₦2 billion mark in box office earnings. The movie has also shattered existing box office records in the United Kingdom and Ireland, further extending its commercial success beyond the African continent.
Filmone confirmed the development in a statement shared on its official page, stating, “Behind the Scenes has officially BROKEN and SHATTERED records hitting over 2 BILLION at the box office and becoming the first Nollywood film in Africa to cross the ₦2 billion mark.
“This is also the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa, the UK, and Ireland and makes @funkejenifaakindele, the first filmmaker to rank #1 at the box office in Africa for three consecutive years, West Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, writer, director, and producer of all time.”
The film was directed by Funke Akindele alongside Tunde Olaoye and features a star-studded ensemble cast. The cast includes Funke Akindele, Scarlet Gomez, Uzor Arukwe, Destiny Etiko, Mr Macaroni, Ini Dima Okojie, Tobi Bakre, Iyabo Ojo, Uche Montana, Ibrahim Chatta and Victoria Adeyele.
Behind The Scenes tells the story of Aderonke “Ronky Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate entrepreneur whose generosity and personal choices gradually begin to affect her private life, creating emotional and professional challenges.
The latest box office success further reinforces Funke Akindele’s position as one of Nollywood’s most influential and commercially successful filmmakers, solidifying her legacy as a dominant force in African cinema.
