Apple is partnering with Google to drive its artificial intelligence capabilities, including a major Siri upgrade expected later this year, the companies announced on Monday.
The multi-year deal will rely on Google’s Gemini models and cloud infrastructure to support Apple’s future foundational AI models, according to the statement.
“After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users,” Apple said in a statement.
Apple declined to comment on the terms of the deal.
In August, it was reported that Apple was in early discussions with Google to use a customised Gemini model to power a new version of Siri.
The deal is another strong signal of confidence in Google’s rapidly advancing AI strategy.
