The United Kingdom has issued a renewed warning to Nigerians and other migrants, cautioning them against engaging in illegal employment and vowing to arrest, detain and deport anyone found working without the required authorisation.
UK authorities said enforcement actions targeting illegal workers have intensified nationwide, with immigration raids now at record levels across the country.
Officials explained that individuals discovered working in violation of immigration regulations will face immediate penalties, including arrest and removal from the United Kingdom.
The UK Home Office, in a post on Friday on its official X account, stated, “Those caught working illegally in the UK will be arrested, detained and removed.”
In a further statement, the UK government said, “Immigration Enforcement raids are at record levels, with those found to be working illegally being arrested, detained and removed from the country.”
Authorities also emphasised that illegal employment weakens the UK’s labour system and has a negative impact on workers who are lawfully employed.
The warning is coming at a time of increased immigration scrutiny under the UK’s stricter border control and labour enforcement policies, which have led to a rise in workplace inspections, particularly in sectors known for employing migrant labour.
The development is expected to cause concern within migrant communities, including Nigerians, as the United Kingdom continues to tighten its immigration controls and intensify its crackdown on undocumented work.
