Popular tech influencer Kagan announces exit from social media

Popular Nigerian tech content creator Oladapo-Ogunsanya Segun, widely known as Kagan Tech, has announced his decision to step away from social media and discontinue video content creation due to health-related challenges.

The announcement, made in a mm video he released on Friday night, has sent shockwaves across the Nigerian tech and digital creator community, where Kagan is regarded as one of the most influential voices in technology education and product reviews.

In the emotional video shared with his followers, Kagan revealed that the decision did not come lightly, explaining that his health has declined to a point where continuing his intense content creation schedule is no longer sustainable. The tech influencer made it clear that prioritising his wellbeing had become unavoidable, describing the video as his last for the foreseeable future. He also hinted at the physical and mental toll years of consistent online engagement have taken on him, noting that stepping offline is necessary for recovery and reflection.

Kagan, who has built a deeply personal relationship with his audience, addressed his followers affectionately, thanking them for their loyalty and understanding while urging them to take their own health seriously.

Kagan Tech’s exit marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s digital content space, given his towering influence and impact. Known for simplifying complex technology concepts, Kagan carved a niche for himself through engaging reviews, particularly around smartphones, digital imaging and Apple products. His mastery of colour theory and digital image technology helped distinguish his content, earning him a reputation as a trusted voice in tech education.

Born on March 5 in Lagos State and raised in Ibadan, Oyo State, Kagan’s journey into technology was driven by curiosity and self-learning. With more than a decade of experience in the tech industry, his career dates back to 2011 and spans multiple disciplines, including web design, social media management, SEO, graphic design and digital marketing. Before becoming a tech influencer, he began as a music producer and later transitioned into blogging, founding Dindindara and Joblanda, platforms that helped young Nigerians access employment opportunities.

After spending five years building his presence on YouTube between 2017 and 2021, Kagan made a strategic move to TikTok, where his influence exploded globally. Within 30 days, he gained over 200,000 followers, amassed more than 6 million likes and crossed 100 million views. His Instagram account experienced similar growth, climbing from 6,000 to 120,000 followers in just four weeks. Today, Kagan commands a combined audience of over 900,000 followers across platforms under the handle @kagantech.

His contributions to the tech ecosystem earned him nominations at the Trendupp Awards in 2021 and 2023 in the Forces of Tech Content category, further cementing his status as a leading tech influencer in Nigeria.

As Kagan steps away from the spotlight to focus on his health, his departure serves as a sobering reminder of the human cost behind digital success. While fans hope for his eventual return, his legacy as a visionary creative professional and educator remains firmly intact.
