OpenAI partners electronics firm to build AI data centre components

OpenAI unveils GPT-5 amid rising industry investment

OpenAI has announced a partnership with Taiwan’s Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, to design and produce AI data center components in the United States.

This collaboration is part of OpenAI’s broader plans to expand its infrastructure.

Although financial details were not disclosed, OpenAI stated on Thursday that it will gain early access to test Foxconn’s systems and will have the option to purchase them.

The partnership aims to speed up infrastructure deployment while ensuring long-term U.S.-based capacity.

Under the deal, OpenAI and Foxconn will jointly develop multiple generations of AI servers simultaneously, while producing key components, including power, networking, and cooling systems, at Foxconn’s U.S. facilities.

According to Foxconn’s website, the company operates factories in Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Indiana.

“This partnership is a step toward ensuring the core technologies of the AI era are built here,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a statement, describing AI infrastructure as a “generational opportunity to reindustrialize America.”

OpenAI has recently ramped up dealmaking with some of the world’s largest technology companies, announcing spending commitments totaling around $1.4 trillion.

This has sparked questions about whether the startup can generate enough profit to justify such massive investments.

Earlier this month, CEO Sam Altman projected that the company will reach $20 billion in annualized revenue by year-end and expects revenue to climb into the hundreds of billions by 2030.
