Tinubu vows to defeat terrorism, strengthen diplomatic ties

Nigeria@64: Tinubu unveils plan to create 2.5m jobs

President Bola Tinubu has strongly reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and strengthening diplomatic ties with Nigeria’s global partners.

The President delivered this declaration just before the Federal Executive Council entered a closed-door session on Thursday, marking the council’s first gathering since July, held at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Addressing the ongoing security challenges and diplomatic engagements, the President declared: “We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism. The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose guided by the Renewed Hope agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria.”

President Tinubu’s remarks come days after U.S. President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern,’ a move which the Federal Government has described as a misrepresentation of the nation’s security situation.

In his first public comments on the diplomatic tension, Tinubu stated that his government is actively engaging the international community to advance security, stability, and economic growth.

He assured his cabinet: “Despite political headwinds and fears, we will continue to engage with our partners.”

He pointed to recent economic success as a sign of confidence in his administration, noting: “The success of the $2.3bn Eurobond, which was oversubscribed, is a sign of confidence in our economy.”

Reiterating the administration’s focus, the President stated: “The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose,” he said. The President also assured Nigerians that the country remains united and resolute in its pursuit of peace and prosperity.

Furthermore, Tinubu commended members of his cabinet for their commitment to his Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the crucial need for unity and focus in the implementation of all government reforms.
