Airline websites, including Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, experienced partial outages on Monday following a disruption in Amazon Web Services, which supports many online platforms.
“We can confirm increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region,” Amazon said on its AWS dashboard early Monday.
“During this time, customers may be unable to create or update Support Cases. Engineers were immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue, and fully understanding the root cause.”
The airlines did not immediately respond to requests for comment, according to CNBC.
Meanwhile, some passengers reported missing reservations on airline apps, while others said they were unable to check in or drop off their bags.
Several online services — including Venmo, Snapchat, Fortnite, Facebook, Prime Video, and Amazon’s cloud division, Amazon Web Services — experienced outages early Monday, according to Downdetector.com, which monitors internet disruptions.
It was also reported that some passengers may have noticed that the National Rail website and app experienced disruptions earlier today.
The Rail Delivery group said “Due to technical issues with our infrastructure provider this morning, the National Rail website and app have intermittently been impacted by slower speeds and difficulty loading.”
Passengers were urged to access real-time updates on National Rail’s X account or visit train operators’ websites for ticket details and journey planning.
