Nigeria, others spent $1.4trn on debt servicing in 2023 - World Bank

Nigeria is set to receive two loans totaling $750 million from the World Bank on Tuesday, according to the bank’s official website.

The loans are aimed at improving Nigeria’s healthcare security and expanding access to climate-resilient digital infrastructure in underserved areas.

One of the loans is a $500 million facility, known as the Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth in Nigeria (BRIDGE) project. The BRIDGE project is led by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and is targeted at boosting the nation’s broadband access across unserved and underserved areas of Nigeria.

The project aims to develop climate-resilient broadband infrastructure to bridge structural gaps and bring internet access to rural and remote communities. The other loan is a $250 million loan under the Health Security Programme in Western and Central Africa, Nigeria – Phase II, which is designed to improve Nigeria’s healthcare security.

These loans are expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s development, particularly in the areas of digital infrastructure and healthcare.
