Nigerian Breweries appoints new finance director, non-executive director

Nigerian Breweries Plc has announced the appointments of Maria Karaseva and Guillaume Duverdier as Finance Director and Non-Executive Director, respectively.

Duverdier replaces Sijbe “Siep” Hiemstra, a non-executive director who recently retired from the Board, while Karaseva replaces Bernardus A. Wessels Boer, who completed his assignment as Finance Director on August 31, 2025.

According to the company secretary/legal director, Uaboi Agbebaku, the appointments of Duverdier and Karaseva became effective recently.

Prior to his appointment to the board, Duverdier had been a seasoned executive within the HEINEKEN Group, serving as the HEINEKEN Regional President for Africa and the Middle East. He brings over two decades of strategic and operational experience across Europe, Africa, and Latin America to the board.

Karaseva, who joined the company as Chief Finance Officer of Al Ahram Beverages, the HEINEKEN operating company in Egypt, has extensive experience in finance and corporate strategy in the consumer goods sector.

The board welcomes Duverdier and Karaseva, looking forward to the wealth of experience and knowledge they will bring.

Hiemstra served in various capacities, including interim chairman, where he successfully executed a business recovery plan that returned the company to profitability.

Boer played a key role in the company’s recent positive turnaround, including reducing debt and eliminating foreign exchange-denominated debts and interests.
