Comfort Emmanson, the passenger who assaulted airline officials on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has reportedly been charged in court.
The special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development,
Tunde Moshood, stated that Emmanson is currently remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
Moshood made the statement in a post on X on Monday, shortly after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced that enforcement actions would soon increase at Nigerian airports due to a rise in unruly passenger behavior.
“The more reason the flying public should be more careful, the unruly passenger on Uyo-Lagos bound Ibom Air, Miss Comfort Emmanson has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri,” Moshood said.
Videos on social media showed an angry Emmanson attacking flight attendants on an Ibom Air flight and confronting airport security officials.
Ibom Air stated the incident started just before takeoff from Uyo, when Emmanson refused to follow standard safety rules to switch off her mobile phone.
The airline said a fellow passenger sitting beside Emmanson took her phone and switched it off, triggering a verbal outburst from her.
Upon arrival in Lagos, the aviation company added, Emmanson confronted the purser—who had earlier asked her to switch off the phone—and physically assaulted her.
Ibom Air said her behavior posed a serious threat to the safety of its crew, passengers, and aircraft.
As a result, the airline has imposed a travel ban on her, stating she will no longer be allowed to fly on any of its planes.
