Elon Musk has revealed on Wednesday that Tesla is developing a new Full Self-Driving model with substantial video upgrades and a larger system.
“Tesla is training a new FSD model with ~10X params and a big improvement to video compression loss. Probably ready for public release end of next month if testing goes well,” the tech billionaire said in an update on the X social media platform.
FSD is a partially automated driving system designed to help Tesla vehicles navigate with minimal driver input.
Drivers are still required to keep their hands on the wheel and be prepared to take control of steering or braking at any moment. The system builds on Tesla’s existing Autopilot driver-assist technology, which is already in use across Europe and China.
Powered by an artificial intelligence model, FSD relies on the vehicle’s cameras and sensors to interpret its surroundings.
Musk’s reference to “10X params” signals a model with significantly more parameters—suggesting a larger, more data-rich, and capable AI system.
FSD remains a key part of Musk’s vision for driving Tesla’s revenue and technological edge, especially as Chinese EV makers intensify competition.
Many Tesla supporters believe the company’s long-term growth hinges on its success in autonomous driving.
Recall Tesla earlier in the year launched its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas.
