Baidu unveils AI video generator, revamps search engine

Chinese tech giant Baidu on Wednesday unveiled a new AI-powered video generation tool for businesses, alongside a significant upgrade to its core search engine.

The new model, named MuseSteamer, can generate videos of up to 10 seconds from images and is available in three versions—Turbo, Pro, and Lite. Unlike other AI video tools such as OpenAI’s Sora, which cater to individual users via subscription, Baidu’s MuseSteamer is currently targeted exclusively at business users. A consumer-facing version has not yet been announced.

The launch positions Baidu among the latest in a wave of global tech firms expanding their artificial intelligence capabilities beyond chatbots into image-to-video and text-to-video generation. In China, companies like ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba have also rolled out similar models in recent months.

In a parallel move, Baidu introduced a major redesign of its search engine. The updated platform now features a more advanced search box capable of handling longer, more complex queries, and supports voice and image-based searches. The results are tailored using Baidu’s AI algorithms to deliver more relevant and intelligent content to users.

The twin announcements come as Baidu faces growing competition from AI-powered chatbots developed by domestic rivals. ByteDance’s Doubao and Tencent’s Yuanbao have rapidly gained popularity, putting pressure on Baidu to defend its position in China’s increasingly AI-driven internet sector.

The company’s latest innovations signal a push to maintain its technological edge while focusing on enterprise applications of generative AI, even as consumer demand for such tools continues to grow.
