Google announced on Monday the official release of its NotebookLM app for Android and iOS, expanding access to its AI-powered note-taking and research assistant beyond desktop for the first time.
The launch comes a day ahead of the company’s annual I/O 2025 developer conference, and a day earlier than originally scheduled.
Initially introduced in 2023, NotebookLM leverages artificial intelligence to help users navigate and understand complex material through features like smart summaries and the ability to ask questions based on uploaded documents, articles, or other source materials.
The mobile app brings several new features to the table, including Audio Overviews — AI-generated podcast-style summaries based on user-provided content. These overviews support background playback and can be accessed offline, allowing users to absorb information while on the move.
Users can also create new notebooks, browse existing ones, and seamlessly add new content by sharing websites, PDFs, or YouTube videos directly to NotebookLM from their device. The app’s interface adapts to system settings, offering both light and dark modes.
The release marks a significant step in Google’s push to make its AI tools more accessible and integrated into everyday workflows. With the timing of the launch, the company is expected to highlight NotebookLM further during its keynote at Google I/O on Tuesday.
