Nike lays off tech workers, shifts work to external vendors

Sportswear giant Nike has begun laying off employees within its technology division, the company confirmed on Monday.

The move is part of a restructuring effort that will see some of the division’s work outsourced to third-party vendors.

The number of affected employees has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear how large Nike’s technology workforce is. The company said the changes were communicated to staff last week.

The layoffs come amid broader efforts by Nike to reposition itself in a competitive retail landscape. In March, the company warned of a steeper-than-expected decline in fourth-quarter revenue, as it struggles to win back consumers drawn to newer, trendier brands.

Earlier this month, CEO Elliott Hill announced a series of changes to the company’s senior leadership team. Hill, who took over in October 2024, is tasked with revitalizing Nike’s product line and restoring momentum after a period of sluggish innovation and sales performance.
