Spotify unveiled a major update to its mobile app on Wednesday, introducing a range of new features aimed at giving users, particularly Premium subscribers, more control over their listening experience and music recommendations.
The update, which will roll out gradually, includes enhancements to playlist management, queue customization, and personalization tools, as the streaming giant continues balancing its signature algorithmic suggestions with greater user input.
Among the most notable changes is a revamped Queue for Premium users. The new design brings easier access to essential controls like Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and Sleep Timer. Users can also now switch off Smart Shuffle and Autoplay entirely via the app’s Settings menu.
Spotify says Premium subscribers will start seeing a preview of recommended tracks that would play after their current queue, giving them more choice over what gets played next.
To improve playlist navigation, a redesigned Hide button allows users to remove unwanted tracks from playlists across all devices. Spotify is also introducing a new “Snooze” feature that will temporarily hide a song from personalized recommendations for 30 days — offering a less permanent alternative to the traditional Hide.
Playlist creation and editing are also being streamlined. Users will now see Add, Edit, and Sort buttons at the top of each playlist, enabling them to quickly update titles, change cover art, or reorder tracks.
In select countries — including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and others — users will be able to generate new playlists from their Liked Songs by filtering them by genre and tapping a new “Turn into a playlist” option.
Spotify is also reorganizing how users access music-curation tools. A new Create button at the bottom-right corner of the mobile app now offers quick access to features like collaborative playlists, Blend (a shared playlist for two users), and Premium-exclusive tools such as AI Playlist and Jam — a real-time listening session that allows multiple users to contribute to a shared queue.
With these updates, Spotify has also shifted the Your Library tab to the third position in the app’s bottom navigation bar to better reflect the user’s evolving listening habits.
The changes signal Spotify’s broader effort to put more of the music discovery process back into listeners’ hands, while still offering the personalization that has long defined its platform.
