Apple partners Anthropic on AI-Powered 'vibe coding' platform

Apple is collaborating with Anthropic, an AI startup backed by Amazon, to develop a new artificial intelligence-based software platform that aims to revolutionize code writing, editing, and testing, according to a Bloomberg News report. .

Dubbed “vibe coding,” the innovative approach involves AI agents generating code—a method gaining momentum within the rapidly evolving AI sector. The new platform will serve as an enhanced version of Apple’s existing Xcode programming environment and is expected to feature Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet AI model.

While Apple has not yet commented on the development, and Anthropic has declined to provide details, the report notes that Apple intends to use the new software internally. A decision on whether the platform will be released to the public has not been finalized.

This move marks a renewed push by Apple into AI-assisted development tools. The tech giant had previously announced Swift Assist, an AI-based tool for Xcode developers expected to launch in 2024. However, the project was quietly shelved amid internal concerns that it might hinder app development efficiency.

As AI coding assistants become increasingly popular, Apple’s move reflects its broader strategy to keep pace with competitors in the generative AI space. Last month, Bloomberg also reported that OpenAI is in talks to acquire Windsurf, another AI coding tool, for around \$3 billion.

With competition heating up across the tech landscape, Apple is bolstering its AI capabilities not only through partnerships but also by upgrading its hardware.

The company has been integrating more powerful chips into its devices, designed to support AI functions such as enabling users to access ChatGPT for real-time assistance.
