In a strategic move to curb the rising cost of air travel within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, the Federal Government has unveiled the BisonFly Project — a centralized, technology-driven travel management system.

The initiative, designed by the Federal Ministry of Finance, aims to introduce a more structured and cost-efficient approach to official air travel. According to the government, BisonFly will leverage digital booking tools and a unified platform to secure discounted rates, ensure transparency, and improve overall efficiency in travel arrangements across the federal civil service.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, inaugurated the project team on Thursday in Abuja. Speaking at the ceremony, Edun described the project as a vital component of the government’s broader agenda for fiscal responsibility and public sector reform.

“Project BisonFly directly supports our commitment to prudent financial management,” Edun said. “By coordinating travel and securing discounted rates, we are using the government’s collective bargaining power to cut expenditure and improve service delivery — just as global institutions like the World Bank have done successfully.”

The minister also emphasized that institutional reform is key to achieving long-term savings and operational improvements within the public sector.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Raymond Omachi, praised the minister’s leadership, calling the initiative a “model for fiscal responsibility” within and beyond the public service.

According to a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, the BisonFly Project was developed by the Efficiency Unit of the Ministry in collaboration with ICT advisers and key stakeholders. A dedicated implementation team has been set up to oversee the rollout, which is expected to go live in the coming months.

The statement noted that the BisonFly Project aligns with the federal government’s broader goals of enhancing efficiency, accountability, and fiscal discipline in public sector operations.

“With its innovative approach to cost savings and transparency, the project is poised to make a significant impact on government operations and set a precedent for future initiatives,” Edun concluded.
