The Nigeria Airspace Management Authority is visiting the Rhode and Schwarz factory in Germany to evaluate critical air-ground communication equipment.
This move is part of efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airspace infrastructure.
This was disclosed in a statement by NAMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Abdullahi Musa, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the visit, led by NAMA’s Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, aims to ensure that Nigeria receives high-quality equipment through a direct assessment at the Rhode and Schwarz factory.
The delegation also engaged in high-level talks with Rhode and Schwarz officials and Deo Makro Ltd, the indigenous contractor that facilitated the visit.
The statement read, “as part of the project, NAMA will be deploying the Rohde & Schwarz High-Frequency (HF) transceiver, equipped with advanced signal processing algorithms that significantly reduce the noise levels typically associated with traditional HF systems.
“This technology leap is expected to boost the long-range air-to-ground communications capabilities across the Nigerian airspace. It is specifically designed to address the range limitations of the current Very High Frequency systems.
“The new HF solution would ensure robust and reliable communication coverage over the Gulf of Guinea, extending far into the Atlantic Ocean, across the northern desert regions beyond the Kano Flight Information Region.”
Speaking during the visit, Umar expressed confidence that the new communication equipment would enhance upper airspace communication in Nigeria.
He emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to improving safety in the sector by upgrading and modernizing the country’s airspace infrastructure.
