According to a statement signed by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Friday, the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at around 9:22 p.m., approximately 14.9 kilometers from the Ikeja-West transmission substation.

The statement read, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria announces that on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 9:22 pm, the Ikeja-West/Osogbo 330 kV line tripped at a distance of about 14.9 km from Ikeja-West Transmission Substation. Mbah disclosed that a thorough investigation revealed extensive damage to Tower 528, which collapsed after a trailer truck struck detached conductors hanging from Tower 527.

The incident also impacted Tower 526 and Tower 524.

TCN assured affected customers that repair works on the damaged towers are ongoing to restore normal bulk power supply to Ikeja, Eko, and Ibadan DISCOs.

“Our engineers are working diligently to repair the affected towers and ensure normal bulk power supply to Ikeja, Eko, and Ibadan DISCOs. The TCN remains committed to providing efficient and reliable transmission of bulk electricity nationwide,” it added.
