Beijing’s municipal government announced on Tuesday that Monica, a Chinese version of AI startup Manus’ Assistant, has completed the regulatory registration required for generative AI applications in China.
This approval marks a significant milestone for the AI assistant, clearing a key regulatory hurdle.
China imposes strict regulations on generative AI platforms, requiring them to comply with government guidelines to prevent the creation of content deemed sensitive or inappropriate by authorities.
Last week, Manus revealed a strategic partnership with the team behind Alibaba’s Qwen AI models. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the domestic rollout of Monica, which is currently accessible only via invite codes and has a waiting list of 2 million users, according to the company.
