First Bank of Nigeria has officially begun the construction of its new 40-story headquarters at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, with a groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday.
In a statement signed by the Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, the new building will become the tallest in Nigeria upon completion.
The statement also mentioned that the building will be a green-certified structure, incorporating modern technology and eco-friendly features.
The bank emphasized that the project reflects its commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
The green certification ensures the building will lower operational costs while showcasing First Bank’s dedication to sustainable banking practices.
The statement read “It will be an engineering and environmental delight due to its technologically advanced, eco-friendly, and sophisticated construction, which would set a new standard for the financial services sector in Africa.”
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Group, Olusegun Alebiosu, called the groundbreaking a key milestone for the bank.
“Our new Head Office is envisioned as a world-class structure that represents our dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. We believe that this development will play a crucial role in fostering economic growth and development across Africa, creating long-term value for all our stakeholders,” Alebiosu said.
The Chairman of FirstHoldCo, Femi Otedola, also emphasized the importance of collaboration across various sectors in bringing the project to life.
“Today’s gathering highlights the importance of collaboration and support from various sectors in bringing our ambitious plans for the new headquarters to life. We appreciate the unrelenting support from our customers and stakeholders as we work together to turn this vision into reality,” Otedola stated.
The event was graced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside Senators, State Governors, Federal Ministers, and industry leaders.
