Spotify is considering launching a premium music streaming tier that could cost up to $5.99 per month on top of existing subscriptions, offering higher-quality audio, remixing tools, and access to concert tickets, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.
The new service, tentatively called “Music Pro,” is expected to debut later this year, though final pricing and features may vary by region, particularly in less-developed markets, according to sources cited in the report.
A Spotify spokesperson declined to confirm speculation about the tier’s details or feature set but acknowledged ongoing efforts to enhance user experiences with AI-driven innovations.
The proposed subscription would allow users to mix songs from different artists, leveraging artificial intelligence for customization. Additionally, Spotify has reportedly held early discussions with major ticket sellers and promoters to integrate event access into its platform.
Spotify currently charges $11.99 per month for its individual premium plan in the U.S., with family plans reaching $19.99. The introduction of “Music Pro” would mark a strategic shift in Spotify’s monetization approach, potentially tapping into audiophile and creator markets.
The company has also recently secured multi-year licensing agreements with major record labels, including Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. CEO Daniel Ek has hinted at plans for more personalized subscription offerings, including tiers catering to superfans.
Spotify has forecast 678 million monthly active users for the first quarter, aligning with analyst estimates of 679.4 million.
