Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin to lay off 10% workforce

Blue Origin is cutting approximately 10% of its workforce, just one month after the successful maiden launch of its New Glenn mega-rocket.

The layoffs could impact around 1,000 employees, as the company employs more than 10,000 people, according to a report from Reuters.

CEO Dave Limp informed employees of the decision during an all-hands meeting on Thursday, acknowledging that the company was not “set up for the kind of success that we really wanted to have,” calling it a “painful conclusion,” Reuters reported. Blue Origin has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.

Limp took over as CEO in 2023 after leading Amazon’s devices and services division for over a decade. Before his tenure, Blue Origin—particularly its New Glenn program—faced repeated delays, while rival SpaceX continued to dominate the commercial spaceflight market.
