Meta will begin a new round of company-wide layoffs today while accelerating recruitment efforts for machine learning engineers, according to internal memos released on Friday
Notices will be sent out to affected employees starting at 5 a.m. local time on Monday in most countries, including the United States, according to a memo from Janelle Gale, Meta’s Head of People.
Workers in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands will be exempt from the cuts due to local labor regulations. Employees in over a dozen other countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa will receive their notifications between February 11 and February 18.
Last month, the company confirmed plans to cut about 5% of its lowest-performing employees, with some positions set to be refilled. The latest memo, in which Gale referred to the dismissals as “performance terminations,” was first reported by The Information.
Unlike previous rounds of layoffs, Meta’s offices will remain open on Monday, and no additional updates on the restructuring will be provided, Gale stated.
Meanwhile, in a separate memo on Friday, Peng Fan, Meta’s Vice President of Engineering for Monetization, urged employees to support a fast-tracked hiring process for machine learning engineers and other key technical roles. The hiring push will run from February 11 to March 13.
“Thank you for your continued support in helping us achieve our accelerated hiring goals and better align with our company’s priorities for 2025,” Fan wrote.
