Meta announced on Tuesday that it will soon enable users to link their WhatsApp accounts to the Accounts Center, a centralized hub for managing connected experiences across Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Meta Quest.
The integration will allow WhatsApp users to cross-post their Status updates directly to Instagram and Facebook Stories, eliminating the need for repeated posting. Additionally, users will be able to log in to multiple Meta apps using a single account via the “Single Sign-On” feature, which allows for seamless authentication across platforms, such as logging into Instagram with Facebook account credentials.
Connecting WhatsApp to the Accounts Center is optional, and the feature will be off by default.
Meta emphasized that WhatsApp messages and calls will remain end-to-end encrypted even if users choose to link their accounts. This reassurance is likely aimed at addressing privacy concerns that often arise with cross-platform integrations.
The Accounts Center was first introduced in 2020 to streamline the management of Meta’s interconnected services. With this update, Meta is expanding its functionality to include features such as managing avatars, Meta AI stickers, and “Imagine Me” creations, further unifying its ecosystem.
Meta revealed that the WhatsApp integration will be rolled out globally, but the process may take several months before it reaches all users. Once available, the option to link accounts will appear in WhatsApp settings and may also be suggested when users attempt cross-app actions, such as re-posting a WhatsApp Status to Instagram or Facebook.
This development is part of Meta’s broader strategy to deepen integration among its platforms, offering users a more unified experience while bolstering engagement across its services.
