The Federal Government has initiated the 10-for-10 Campaign, aiming to convert 10,000 commercial vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas within a 10-week period.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote the use of cleaner energy sources and reduce dependence on petrol and diesel, while also addressing the rising fuel costs.
This was disclosed in a statement posted by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
According to the agency, the 10-for-10 Campaign is designed to revolutionize transportation in Abuja and Lagos by facilitating the conversion of commercial vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas.
The 10-for-10 Campaign, which began on Thursday, January 16, 2025, will run until March 31, 2025.
Observers have described this initiative as a bold move toward creating a greener, more sustainable transportation system, tackling both the rising fuel costs and environmental pollution.
According to the PCNGI, the 10-for-10 Campaign presents a unique opportunity for commercial vehicle operators to benefit from free CNG conversions.
“This is your golden chance to enjoy FREE CNG conversions and be part of the future of transportation. Reduced fuel costs, cleaner air, and a smarter commute await you,” PCNGI said.
In November 2024, the PCNGI announced a major milestone, revealing that over 100,000 vehicles in Nigeria have now been converted from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas or bi-fuel systems
The number of CNG conversion centers in Nigeria has experienced significant growth, rising from just seven in 2023 to over 140 in 2024.
This expansion, as noted by Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, the Project Director and CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative, plays a crucial role in supporting the widespread adoption of Compressed Natural Gas, further advancing Nigeria’s energy transition efforts.
He explained that efforts are underway to establish additional CNG conversion centers across the country.
