Nigerian exchange gains N507bn as market capitalization hits N63.56trn

Investors on the Nigerian Exchange gained N507 billion on Wednesday, with market capitalization rising to N63.56 trillion from N63.05 trillion in the previous session.

The All-Share Index increased by 831.91 points, or 0.8%, closing at 104,230.73.

This marks a 1.27% week-on-week gain, a 6.13% increase over the past four weeks, and a 1.27% rise year-to-date.

MTN Nigeria and Transcorp Nigeria were the top gainers, rising by 10% to close at N220.00 and N49.50 per share, respectively.

Honeywell Flour Mill increased by 9.95% to N8.29, while AIICO Insurance rose by 9.94% to N1.88 per share.

On the losing side, Sunu Assurances led the decline, dropping by 9.99% to N9.01 per share. Universal Insurance lost 8.97%, ending at N0.71, while Secure Electronic Technology fell by 8.11% to N0.68. Consolidated Hallmark Holdings declined by 5.82%, finishing at N3.40.

The trading session recorded 639.48 million shares valued at N20.44 billion, exchanged in 13,550 deals. This represented a 43% decline in volume, a 40% increase in turnover, and an 18% decrease in deals compared to the previous day.

Tantalizers led in trading volume with 82.4 million shares, followed by Universal Insurance (56.6 million shares), AIICO Insurance (54.3 million shares), and Chams (33.1 million shares).

In terms of value, Geregu Power topped the chart with trades worth N11.39 billion, followed by Total Nigeria (N1.78 billion), Aradel Holdings (N744.69 million), Access Holdings (N617.27 million), and Zenith Bank (N500.37 million).

The Top 30 Index increased by 0.96%, while the Premium Index rose by 2.18%. The Banking Index gained 0.55%, and the Pension Index climbed by 1.16%.
