Nigerian Breweries Plc has appointed Juliet Anammah as the company’s first female board chair.
This marks a step forward in Nigeria’s major capitalized companies, which are increasingly achieving gender equality in their board leadership formations.
Following its December 12 board meeting, Nigerian Breweries Plc announced the appointment of Juliet Anammah as the substantive board chair, effective January 1, 2025.
She succeeds Sijbe ‘Siep’ Hiemstra, who has served as interim board chair since the beginning of the year.
With over three decades of professional experience spanning consulting, consumer goods, sales, marketing, e-commerce, and sustainability, Anammah brings extensive expertise to her new role.
She is the immediate past chair and chief group sustainability officer of Jumia Nigeria, having previously served as the company’s CEO.
Anammah also served as the managing director of Accenture LLC, overseeing the firm’s consumer goods, retail, and transportation practices in West Africa.
She is a board member of several local and international organizations, including Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc.
“Progress is being made and we now have female board chairs at two of the NGX-30 companies. Congratulations to Juliet,” an informed market source stated.
“Mobola Johnson is the chair of Guinness. The brewers certainly get the maths right. We are slowly closing the gender equality gap with seasoned and competent women in leadership.”
Nigerian Breweries’ recent rights issue saw a subscription rate of 91.59%. The company launched the N599.1 billion rights issue on September 2, offering 22.61 billion ordinary shares at N26.50 per share, with a ratio of 11 new shares for every five held as of July 12.
Three years ago, Guinness Nigeria appointed Omobola Johnson as its board chair, succeeding Babatunde Savage upon his retirement.
