Starting November 1, 2024, a one-way flight ticket from Lagos to Abuja on Air Peace will rise to N200,000.

The challenging economic conditions have pressured airlines to raise their fares, prompting some Nigerians to shift from air travel to road transport.

Recent checks revealed that Air Peace’s new fare is the highest among domestic airlines, reflecting significant increases across the industry, according to The Punch.

Air Peace lists one-way flights from Lagos to Abuja at N200,000 and above, while Aero charges between N94,000 and N109,000, Arik Air’s fares range from N104,405 to N139,292, and Ibom Air’s prices are between N124,000 and N133,000.

These soaring airfares have resulted in many passengers being stranded at airports, unable to secure flights, particularly on the busy Lagos-Abuja route, where demand exceeds available seats.

The busiest routes, Lagos-Abuja and Abuja-Lagos, are more impacted as many passengers find it tough to secure seats.

An unnamed Air Peace official confirmed the fare increase, attributing it to Nigeria’s worsening economic challenges.

“Just as we all know, all these killing taxes go to the government, and businesses especially airlines have been left with no choice other than to do this, it is what it is,” according to the unnamed official.

Attempts to reach the Chief Operating Officer of Air Peace, Toyin Olajide, were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls or text messages.
