National grid faces third collapse in a week

Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed for the third time in a week, with the latest incident occurring on Saturday morning.

This was confirmed by the Nigeria National Grid on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.

In a statement issued at 8:40 a.m., the agency reported that all power distribution companies across the country were left without any electricity supply.

According to the statement, affected DisCos included Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola, all recording 0 megawatts.

“Abuja DisCo – 0 MW; Benin DisCo – 0 MW; Eko DisCo – 0 MW; Enugu DisCo – 0 MW; Ibadan DisCo – 0 MW; Ikeja DisCo – 0 MW; Jos DisCo – 0 MW; Kaduna DisCo – 0 MW; Kano DisCo – 0 MW; PHarcourt DisCo – 0 MW; Yola DisCo – 0 MW,” the post read.

The expected power output for the grid is approximately 4,800 MW, making the current outages particularly concerning.

This latest collapse follows similar failures on Monday and Tuesday, amidst ongoing efforts to restore power.
