Emirate Airlines has proscribed the carrying of pagers and walkie-talkies in both hand and checked luggage for flights to, from, or connecting through Dubai.
This decision follows multiple incidents of device explosions reported in Lebanon and Syria last month.
In a statement on its website, the airline said, “All passengers travelling on flights to, from or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies in checked or cabin baggage.”
The airline also stated that any pagers or walkie-talkies discovered in passengers’ baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police.
This action follows deadly incidents in Beirut and Damascus in mid-September, where explosions linked to electronic pagers used by Hezbollah resulted in at least 37 deaths and injured around 3,000 people.
In response to the incidents, Lebanese authorities have banned the transport of pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights departing from Beirut Airport.
The airline said it’s monitoring the situation closely and remains in contact with authorities regarding developments in the Middle East.
Current travel advice for tourists visiting countries such as Qatar, Oman, and the UAE indicates that hostilities between Israel and Lebanon could escalate rapidly, presenting potential risks to the wider region.
Travelers are urged to stay informed and exercise caution.
