Meta Platforms announced on Wednesday that its artificial intelligence chatbot, Meta AI, will be launched in 21 new markets as part of its effort to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

In a move to attract more users, technology companies are enhancing their AI chatbots with new features and broader language support. Currently, Meta AI boasts nearly 500 million monthly active users, and starting Wednesday, it will be available in the UK, Brazil, and various countries across Latin America and Asia.

The expanded service will also include support for several languages, including Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese. Following this rollout, Meta AI will be accessible in a total of 43 countries and a dozen languages, positioning it to become the most widely used AI assistant by the end of 2024.

However, the latest expansion will not feature the new character voices for the AI chatbot that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced at the company’s annual Connect conference; these enhancements will be introduced on a separate timeline.

Additionally, Meta AI will be integrated into Ray-Ban Meta glasses in the UK and Australia, further extending its reach and usability.
