Apple’s latest software update, iOS 18, brings a range of new features and aesthetic changes, beyond the much-anticipated Apple Intelligence.
Unveiled at the iPhone 16 “Glowtime” event on Monday, the update will roll out on September 16.
iOS 18 introduces greater flexibility in customizing home screens, allowing users to place icons anywhere, leave blank spaces, and even change the color and size of icons. Siri has also received a visual update, with the virtual assistant now lighting up the edges of the iPhone rather than appearing as a glowing orb at the bottom.
The control center has been revamped with a multi-page layout, enabling users to customize controls and add support for third-party apps. Additionally, users can now replace the default flashlight and camera icons on the lock screen.
The update also includes a dedicated passwords app and a redesigned Photos app, which now features a single-page view and regularly surfaces old photos through carousels. Language updates in iOS 18 include a multilingual and multiscript keyboard, support for Hindi in the Translate app, and Arabic support in Live Text.
The call app has been enhanced with improved search capabilities for call history and contacts, while the Messages app now allows users to schedule messages for later.
iOS 18 will be available for iPhone XR and later models, as well as the second-generation iPhone SE and newer.
