The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Felix Ogbe, has announced that the board targets 70 per cent Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector by 2027.

This was disclosed by Ogbe during a visit to the facilities of BEAMCO Nigeria Limited on Tuesday, in Lagos, according to The Punch.

Ogbe praised the oil and gas service company for its efforts in the production of equipment components.

He said that the multibillion-dollar NLNG Train-7 project on Bonny Island, Rivers State, was scheduled for pre-inauguration preparations and the installation of locally built pumps and valves.

In his address at the load-out ceremony at BEAMCO’s facility in Apapa, Lagos, the NCDMB boss noted that the feat of sourcing such vital components in-country was made possible by the Equipment Component Manufacturing Initiative launched by the NCDMB in 2013.

According to him, the initiative, necessitated the issuance of the Nigerian Content Equipment Certificate as a requirement for participation in equipment supply in the oil and gas industry.

He noted that the implementation made sure that NLNG, via its major contractor, Saipem-Daewoo, granted a contract to BEAMCO for the provision of 17 American Petroleum Institute pumps and 19 control valves for the NLNG Train-7 project In line with the NCDMB’s authorized vendor list.

Ogbe stressed that Nigeria is pleased that BEAMCO will provide high-quality pumps and valves on time.

“This is a demonstration that the Nigerian business environment provides all the enablers to support manufacturing and assembly,” he stated.

He further said that the company’s accomplishments supported the new Presidential Directives on Local Content Implementation, which state that contracts for oil and gas should only be given to domestic firms who have a track record of success.

He pledged that NCDMB will continue to support BEAMCO develop its skills and add backward integration to the production of pump and valve components in Nigeria.

Ogbe assured purpose-driven companies in the oil and gas subsector that “Together we will achieve more of similar milestones in the industry, as part of our collective commitment to achieve 70 per cent Nigerian Content by 2027.”
