The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has praised wealth management and investment immigration firm, Optiva Capital Partners, for its dedication to national development.
This was disclosed in a statement by the commission during the 18th annual National Diaspora Day celebrations held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Sunday, according to The Punch.
Dabiri-Erewa conveyed her appreciation to sponsors and partners, praising Optiva Capital Partners in particular for their collaboration with NIDCOM.
She emphasized the need to give Nigerians worldwide a forum to interact with and make significant investments in their own country.
Dabiri-Erewa underlined the significance of providing possibilities for investment to the diaspora, noting that NIDCOM is collaborating with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment as well as private businesses to make these investments possible.
National Diaspora Day, celebrated annually on July 25, acknowledges the significant contributions of Nigerians living abroad, including their economic, social, and cultural impact.
“The Japa Phenomenon and its Implication for National Development” is this year’s theme, which mirrors the increasing tendency of people migrating in search of better opportunities.
Commenting, the Executive Director of Business Development at Optiva Capital Partners, Amaka Okeke-Lawal, representing Chief Executive Officer, Dr Jane Kimemia, said, “Our partnership with NIDCOM extends beyond the National Diaspora Day celebrations. Optiva Capital is committed to leveraging our extensive network to support Nigerians interested in investing in key sectors such as real estate, hospitality, health, education, ICT, and agriculture. This partnership aims to create new opportunities and enable our diaspora community to achieve their investment goals while contributing to national development.”
A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between Optiva Capital Partners and NIDCOM which formalized their partnership, with an emphasis on services catered to the global needs of Nigerians.
Nigerians in the diaspora have been pivotal in the country’s development, with remittances totaling $99bn over the past five years, according to World Bank statistics.
President Bola Tinubu called on the Nigerian diaspora to actively participate in the development of the country in a message presented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
