The Presidency has characterized as fake the story making the rounds that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, had suggested N105,000 in the new minimum wage design
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga via his official X handle on Thursday.
Onanuga wrote, “The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage.
“The contrary story being disseminated is false.”
The finance minister had earlier today, presented the minimum wage template to President Bola meeting the 48-hour deadline.
Edun and the Minister of Budget, Atiku Bagudu and National Planning, discussed the financial effects of the new minimum wage, in President Tinubu’s office at the presidential palace in Abuja.
According to Western Post, a new proposal suggests a minimum wage of N105,000 (approximately $71) per month for Nigerian workers.
This plan is reportedly being reviewed by Tinubu, and an official statement is anticipated soon.
The Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had embarked on industrial strike action after their meeting with the National Assembly leadership failed to produce a satisfactory outcome.
The strike disrupted economic activities nationwide, leading to the closure of international airports, schools, courts, banks, and hospitals.
