Wigwe University, founded by the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, is set to officially commence operational activities in August 2024.
Located in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the university will offer a wide array of programs across four major colleges: Management and Social Sciences, Art, Science and Computing, and Engineering.
In January 2024, the university appointed Prof. Miles Davis from the United States as its pioneer Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Davis holds a Doctorate in Human and Organisational Sciences from The George Washington University, USA.
The Board of Trustees includes esteemed individuals such as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, and Dr. Ajoritsedere Awosika, and Mrs. Mosunmola Belo-Olusoga, among others.
According to the university’s website, all programs are delivered to international standards through collaboration with global partners, fostering joint research, international exchanges, and internship programs.
With a commitment to research, community engagement, and academic excellence, Wigwe University aims to shape Africa’s future as a leader in global education, boasting a blend of local and foreign faculty members.
Fees for various colleges range from N9,600,000 for Arts to ₦11,998,800 for Engineering, Management and Social Sciences, and Science and Computing, covering tuition, books, laboratory supplies, e-learning resources, and health insurance.
The late founder, Herbert Wigwe, tragically passed away in a helicopter crash alongside his wife and son in California on February 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and commitment to education.
