CAC denies irregular recruitment

The Corporate Affairs Commission refuted allegations of irregular staff recruitment under the leadership of its Registrar-General/CEO, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN.

In a statement released on its official X page on Saturday, April 20, 2024, CAC denied reports online that accused the Registrar of hiring over 100 graduates from his home state of Bauchi.

The statement reads, “On assumption of office on October 16, 2023, the Registrar-General/CEO of the CAC Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, was confronted with a myriad of challenges, including a backlog of promotions and other welfare-related issues. It added, “As a law-abiding government agency under the leadership of a senior member of the bar, the Commission would never embark on all these groundbreaking processes without due approvals and certifications from relevant agencies established to enforce compliance.”

These reports suggested a violation of the Federal Character Principle by allegedly neglecting to recruit employees from the South West or North Central regions.

In its response, CAC urged Nigerians to disregard these allegations. The Commission asserted that it followed due process to address existing challenges upon the assumption of office by the current management.

This included regularizing the status of contract staff and introducing new hires to meet the administration’s objectives. The statement emphasized that these processes were conducted with the necessary approvals and certifications from relevant agencies overseeing compliance.

CAC, a federal government agency overseeing the establishment and administration of companies in Nigeria, operates in accordance with the 1999 constitution, which mandates employment into the civil service to reflect the diversity of Nigeria’s ethnic groups through the Federal Character principle.
