By Melvin Onwubuke

The Nigerian Custom Service has announced it’s partnership with the Directorate-General Taxation and Customs Union of the European Union with the purpose of simplifying trade processes, supervising exports, and enhance documentation in Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, following a discourse with DG TAXUD officials, on Tuesday in Abuja, according to nairametrics.

The Custom Boss emphasized the significance of this partnership, particularly as the NCS is in search of a dependable digital platform to increase its documentation capacity.

Adeniyi noted, the initiative would be fixed on identifying any bureaucratic processes, protocols and regulations responsible for delays, with the aim of fast tracking the clearance of goods from port.

He expressed his optimism about the collaboration, envisaging it as a pathway to window for shared economic prosperity of the two region.

Mr Gary Wilkinson, representing the Rule of Origin Unit at DG TAXUD said “As part of our outreach program, we are also working with other agencies of the Nigerian government so that we maximize these opportunities.

“In the past, we have had goods from Nigeria returned because of quality and storage.”

He added “We have moved to establish a ‘one-stop-shop’ export seat for export documentation, so that it will help us reduce the time taken for Nigerian exporters to get their goods out of our port.

“Earlier this month, we launched the Time Release Studies, which we are targeting towards importing of goods and how much it takes for businessmen to clear their goods in the port.”

Furthermore, Mr Adeniyi pointed out his desire to set up a system, that enhances efficiency, speed and ease in processing requests.
