Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has said that the company is still focused on its metaverse project despite recent AI investments.
“I don’t know how to more unequivocally state that we’re continuing to focus on Reality Labs and the metaverse,” Zuckerberg told The Verge, and maintained that the company is still committed to investing $15 billion annually into the project.
According to Zuckerberg, AI will be essential to Meta’s hardware goods in the future, including its Ray-Ban smart spectacles. Additionally, he expressed his belief that artificial intelligence (AI) may create virtual worlds and create artificial characters to inhabit them.
Since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta has been actively promoting generative AI development internally. The firm also introduced a number of new AI-powered products last year.
Zuckerberg continued by saying that the business was working on creating artificial general intelligence with the intention of making it open-source. Llama 2, a huge language model developed by Meta, was made available to the public in July.
