Former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye, has reportedly regained his freedom from Kuje Prisons after fulfilling bail conditions.
This was made known by the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adamu Duza, in a release.
Duza stated that the former minister regained his freedom at around 5:30pm on Friday.
Duza said, “Agunloye has been released from the prison after meeting his bail condition. He was released this evening around 5:30pm.”
The release follows the order from a Federal High Court in Abuja, which had previously remanded Agunloye in Kuje Custodial Centre over a $6 billion Mambilla hydropower contract, according to Politics Nigeria.
Recall that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had charged Agunloye, who served as a minister from 1999 to 2003, under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
During the court proceedings, Agunloye pleaded not guilty to the charges related to the Mambilla hydropower project initiated in 2003.
The EFCC alleged that he awarded the $6 billion contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited without proper budgetary provision, approval, or cash backing.
