Google on Tuesday announced that the company is letting go of hundreds of staff in its advertising sales team.
The layoff of the advertising team is the latest job cut in the tech giant. Google said last week that it will be laying off a number of staff members from its augmented reality team, hardware teams that work on Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit, and Voice Assistant divisions.
The action adds to indications that companies want to use automation and artificial intelligence technologies to reduce labour costs this year.
Additionally, Amazon said last week that it will be laying off 500 staff at Twitch, its video streaming platform, and several hundred people in its streaming and studio operations.
In an effort to overtake Microsoft in the battle for artificial intelligence, Google, which was previously hailed as a pioneer in promoting AI research, released its much anticipated AI model Gemini last month.
Alphabet disclosed intentions to reduce 12,000 workers, or 6% of its worldwide workforce, in January 2023.
