Microsoft announced on Thursday that its cloud customers in the European Union will be allowed to process and store all personal data in the area.
Prior to this, Microsoft has permitted certain data processing in the area. As a result of the recent change, it would now additionally contain information from automatically generated system logs that are created when utilizing its services.
Big businesses find it challenging to determine where their data is located and if it conforms with privacy regulations due to the sheer size and geographic dispersion of data storage.
Chief Privacy Officer Julie Brill said in a blog post that Microsoft would begin a new phase later this year that will address retaining transient data transfers needed for technical support exchanges.
Brill added that the company intends to give a premium support option that will include first-rate technical assistance from within the EU.
