Nigerians react over rise of more fake products in Nigerian market

More Nigerians have taken to social media to lament the excessive presence of fake products in Nigeria varying from drinks, to packaged foods, drugs and even toiletries.

Nigerians banded together online to call on NAFDAC to investigate and call for a solution to the rise of so many fake products in the Nigerian market.

This comes as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Monday destroyed fake products worth N750m.

According to NAFDAC Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency intercepted counterfeiters involved in the production of a variety of fake beverages including wines, soft drinks, and other products in the Eziukwu market in Aba, Abia state.

According to Prof Adeyeye, the feat was achieved through collaborations with other security agencies following an intelligent tip-off.

As, Nigerians continue an unofficial agency work with ‘Fake Products’ trending on social medial, images of fake and original products have flooded X, formerly called Twitter with 59.1K posts as of the time of filing this story.

@Nimiofficial tweeted, “What is now original in this country?

@ToyosiGodwin lamented, “Imagine severe cough watching you take ‘Emzolim’ instead of ‘Emzolyn'”.

@Mz_Ebehill added: “This is really a serious problem and it explains the sickness with big names everywhere”

Another X user, @enodamade wrote, “It’s time for NAFDAC and SON to rise to the occasion and sanitize our consumption space! We are dying needless deaths because of these fake products!”

@AdedejiOF wrote,” Seriously, this got me thinking yesterday like whats the purpose of having agencies like @NafdacAgency and @SON and we still have tens of fake products in the market.”

@Mannyofabuja said, The fact that we are laughing about this fake drinks and fake soy sauce is another example in the long list. We just laugh it up today, adjust and continue tomorrow.”
