The former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Dr. Thomas Maurice Asuquo John, died today, December 14, 2023.
This was revealed by the NNPC Ltd. Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi O. Soneye who signed a statement on Thursday afternoon via X.
Dr. John was the Acting Alternate Chairman of the Board of the now-defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Known for being a model administrator and businessman, he was the fifth general manager of NNPC, taking over from the late Dr. Aret Adams in April 1990 until June 1992.
Apart from his work at NNPC, he held notable positions in the industry as an Executive Chairman at Hydropec Engineering Services Ltd., a Non-Executive Director at South Atlantic Petroleum, and a former Non-Executive Director at United Bank for Africa Plc.
The statement extended condolences on behalf of the entire management and staff of NNPC Ltd. GCEO Mr. Mele Kyari expressed to the deceased’s family the company’s sincere condolences.
“The NNPC community mourns the loss of a remarkable leader, and our thoughts are with his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
