The announcement of Google’s newest artificial intelligence model, Gemini, caused its stock price to soar by more than 5% on Thursday.
With this advancement, Google will be able to take on rival AI models from Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta.
The stock is set to have its best day since August 29.
Google unveiled Project Gemini on Wednesday, taking a giant step forward in artificial intelligence. It is anticipated that this AI model, which has been trained to behave like a human, will intensify conversations about the advantages and disadvantages of the technology.
Google declined to reveal Gemini’s parameter count—a single, non-exclusive indicator of a model’s complexity, during a virtual press conference.
The superior performance of the most capable version of Gemini over GPT-4 in various assessments such as multiple-choice exams and grade-school math was detailed in a white paper published on December 6.
It did, however, also recognize that there are still difficulties in allowing AI models to develop higher order reasoning abilities.
With the arrival of Gemini, the AI race between Microsoft and San Francisco startup OpenAI, which has been intensifying over the past year, is expected to heat up.
