Meta’s text-based social network Threads, which launched in July, will make its European debut next month, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Meta may make its app available to users in the region for consumption in view-only mode in order to comply with EU legislation. This implies that seeing postings won’t always require creating a profile. However, they may need to make one before publishing.
Furthermore, the company released a feature earlier this month that allows you to remove your Instagram profile without also deleting your Threads profile.
Although Threads doesn’t currently have any advertisements, the privacy labels on iOS suggest that the app gathers a lot of data and leverages Instagram for login. Large platforms are required by EU rules, such as the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act, to obtain explicit agreement from users before collecting data for tailored advertisements.
For users in the EU who want to access Facebook and Instagram ad-free, Meta presently provides a premium subscription.
Days after Threads’ release in July, Meta was forced to implement “additional” measures to stop users based in the EU from accessing the social network over a VPN.
Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Threads had fewer than 100 million monthly active users during Meta’s Q3 earnings call. The CEO of the social network went on to say that he thinks there is a “good chance” that the site will reach one billion members in the near future. Furthermore, a debut in the EU might provide Threads with the much-needed increase in users and interaction.
