Google has announced last weekend that Jamboard, a whiteboard tool and app, would cease operations in 2024.

A 55-inch digital whiteboard called the Jamboard is designed for use in both education and business settings.

Backups must be made before September 30, 2024, when all licence subscriptions for Jamboard devices will expire. According to Google’s blog post regarding the shutdown, the gadget will no longer be able to receive software upgrades the following day, October 1, 2024, when it reaches its Auto Update Expiration.

Currently available in Google Drive, the Jamboard app can be used without a Jamboard device. Users won’t be able to add new Jams (whiteboard slides) or alter already-existing Jams after October 1, 2024, on any platform.

Jamboard will subsequently enter “view-only” mode until December 31, 2024; users can still back up Jams during this time.

Jamboard will remain inaccessible after December 31, 2024, and Jam files will be permanently destroyed.

According to a Google Workspace announcement, the company is integrating third-party whiteboard applications like Figjam by Figma, Lucidspark by Lucid Software, and visual workspace Miro. Customers have told Google that these tools improve teamwork, “particularly, the advanced features they offer like infinite canvas, use case templates, voting, and more,” according to Google.
